She wrote the majority of the twenty-three Original Peter Rabbit Books between 1901 and 1913. The Tale of Peter Rabbit (Frederick Warne, 1902) is her most famous and best-loved tale. \r\n\r\nBefore her marriage at the age of 47 in 1913, Beatrix Potter accompanied her parents on extended summer holidays and she often took the opportunity to sketch the places she visited. The Lake District was a favourite location for the family and became a source of inspiration for Beatrix Potter’s ‘little books’. This pen and ink drawing was identified by the Potter scholar Leslie Linder as a view of a tree on the shore of Derwentwater. It is thought to date from around 1903, when Potter’s book The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin was published (Frederick Warne & Co.), the setting for which is Lake Derwentwater. The book includes an illustration of a windswept tree.\r\n","physicalDescription":"A pen and ink drawing with a windswept tree and the lake shore in the foreground, the water beyond.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Beatrix Potter","id":"A18000"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"ink","id":"AAT15012"},{"text":"pencil","id":"x30347"},{"text":"paper (fiber product)","id":"AAT14109"}],"techniques":[{"text":"drawing","id":"x32498"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"pen and ink over pencil on paper","categories":[{"text":"Drawings","id":"THES48966"},{"text":"Landscapes","id":"THES250800"},{"text":"Woman Artist","id":"THES387590"}],"styles":[{"text":"British","id":"AAT111159"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2018LH4389"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLE","id":"THES49657"},"free":"","case":"SK Temp 9b","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"drawing","id":"x32498"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Derwentwater","id":"x43447"},"association":{"text":"drawn","id":"x30545"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1903","earliest":"1898-01-01","latest":"1907-12-31"},"association":{"text":"drawn","id":"x30545"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Linder Bequest [plus object number; written on labels on the same line as the object number]","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"209","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"sheet","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"267","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"sheet","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Inscribed on folder (no longer used) by Leslie Linder: '1903 Derwent Bay'.
