Recycled China responds to the problem of industrial and construction waste in China by offering a recycling solution. They produce architectural components, artworks, and objects from discarded ceramics and other waste materials (glass, coal ore, dirt) mixed with molten aluminium. Discarded porcelain is collected in factories in Jingdezhen, bricks and dirt from building sites in Beijing, and broken glass from factories. This material is crushed and placed into moulds onto which molten aluminium is poured. This industrial process, undertaken in an aluminium foundry in northern Beijing, results in objects such as panels, roof tiles and vases, all characterised by abstract patterns.","physicalDescription":"Sample tile, made of red brick fragements and aluminium","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Recycled China","id":"AUTH334773"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"AAT10676"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"brick","id":"AAT10463"},{"text":"aluminium","id":"AAT11015"}],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Crushed brick, aluminium","categories":[{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"},{"text":"Tiles","id":"THES48884"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"EAS","id":"THES48596"},"images":["2015HU5086","2015HU5082"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"143","id":"THES49867"},"free":"","case":"1","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Tile","id":"AAT10676"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Beijing (city)","id":"x32780"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"2014","earliest":"2014-01-01","latest":"2014-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Recycled China (Thomas Schmidt and Jeffrey Stephen Miller)","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Length","value":"29.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"14.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"1","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"The tile was produced by Recycled China in Beijing in 2014.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Sample tile, red brick fragments and aluminium, by Recycled China, Beijing, 2014","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[{"text":"Recycled China","id":"AUTH334773"}],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["FE.54-2015"],"accessionNumberNum":"54","accessionNumberPrefix":"FE","accessionYear":2015,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2026-05-05","recordCreationDate":"2015-08-06","availableToBook":false}}
