In 1902 aged 15 she toured in Seymour Hicks' musical comedy <i>An English Daisy,</i> and went on to make her name in musical comedy. She was engaged by George  Edwardes to play three leading  roles at the Prince of Wales Theatre - first in <i>Lady Madcap,</i>1905 and then in <i>The Little Cherub</i> and<i> A Girl on the Stage, </i>1906. At Christmas 1906 she starred in Charles Frohman's production of <i>Peter Pan</i> at the Prince's Theatre Manchester which toured the UK until May 1907.\n\nZena Dare gave up the stage after her marriage in 1911 but made her comeback in 1926 at the age of 39 starring as Mrs Cheyney in <i>The Last of Mrs. Cheyney</i> at Golder's Green, and went on tour in South Africa between 1928 and 1929 with her own company Her longest and last role was as Mrs Higgins in the musical <i>My Fair Lady</i> with Rex Harrison and Julie Andrews at Drury Lane Theatre from 1958 until 1963.","physicalDescription":"Photographic portrait of Zena Dare by Dorothy Wilding, early 20th century.
