This print depicts the manager of Drury Lane Theatre David Garrick attempting to pacify the audience after fighting broke out following the production of Reverend Henry Bates' comic opera <i>The Blackamoor Washed White</i>.\n\nThe piece, that included in its cast the actress Sarah Siddons, in her first season at Drury Lane, was disrupted during its first performance on 1st February by hissing and cries of 'No more! no more!. By the third night fighting broke out in the pit and boxes, and on the fourth night Garrick told the audience that the piece was to be withdrawn.","physicalDescription":"Print entitled &lt;i&gt;The Theatrical Dispute, or the Parson Baited,&lt;/i&gt; depicting fighting onstage at Drury Lane Theatre on 5th February 1776, following the fourth and last performance of a comic opera by Revered Henry Bate.
