A male and female figure are positioned in the foreground, the woman, on the left is facing the viewer, her right hand is upraised as if in surprised, her left is by her side, a fan suspended from her wrist. Both she, and the man who stands in profile to her right as wearing costumes inspired by the fashions of the late sixteenth century.
