It depicts the moment before Osmond kills Sigismunda. Tancred, who later duels with Osmond and kills him, looks on.\n\nTancred was played in this production by the actor, manager and dramatist Joseph George Holman (1764- 1817) who made his first stage appearance at Covent Garden in October 1784 as Romeo, and first played Tancred in James Thomson's play Tancred and Sigismunda at Covent Garden Theatre on 21st December 1791. The play, written in 1745, centres on the tragic conflict between love and duty in which Tancred, descendant of the murdered King Manfred, and Sigismunda, daughter of Siffreidi, are embroiled.","physicalDescription":"The print features the moment in Tancred and Sigismunda before Osmond kills Sigismunda.
