She wrote the majority of the twenty-three Original Peter Rabbit Books between 1901 and 1913. The Tale of Peter Rabbit (Frederick Warne, 1902) is her most famous and best-loved tale. \r\n\r\nFollowing her purchase of Hill Top in the Lake District in 1905, Beatrix Potter made many studies of the Lakeland landscape in all seasons. This watercolour study of a hillside under snow is dated 11 January 1913, when Potter was staying at Hill Top, and probably shows the landscape around Near Sawrey. Potter enjoyed sketching outdoors and thought the Lakeland fells 'even more impressive in mist and snow'.\r\n","physicalDescription":"Watercolour over pencil snow scene in upright format showing a snowy hillside.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Beatrix Potter","id":"A18000"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"pencil","id":"x30347"},{"text":"paper (fiber product)","id":"AAT14109"},{"text":"watercolour (paint)","id":"AAT15045"}],"techniques":[{"text":"watercolour painting (technique)","id":"THES250889"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"watercolour and pencil on paper","categories":[{"text":"Watercolours","id":"THES277714"},{"text":"Landscapes","id":"THES250800"},{"text":"Woman Artist","id":"THES387590"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2019MK8297"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"003","id":"THES318117"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"watercolour (painting)","id":"AAT78925"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Lake District","id":"x35878"},"association":{"text":"drawn","id":"x30545"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"11 January 1913","earliest":"1913-01-11","latest":"1913-01-11"},"association":{"text":"drawn","id":"x30545"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Linder Bequest [plus object number; written on labels on the same line as the object number]","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"255","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"sheet","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"179","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"sheet","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'Jan 11. 13'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"inscribed in pencil by the artist, lower right"}],"objectHistory":"Drawn by Beatrix Potter in 1913.
