A pendant element is threaded onto the ring by means of a gold link decorated with a rosette and granules above a circular setting of a red faceted glass stone surrounded with a row of chiselled granules. This is soldered onto an openwork crescent-shaped element inset with lozenge-shaped bezels into which are fused granules and a row of concave roundels in diminishing sizes as they reach the horns of the crescent. The crescent is outlined with beaded wire and a set of rings made of gold wire on the lower edge embellished with small gold discs The rings have fine gold wires twisted round them. These wires are coiled back on themselves with the lower ends threaded through discoloured simulated seed pearls with granule finials and collars of beaded wire.","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Gold and glass. Dr Ganguly notes that the technique of manually chiselled globules or wires was traditionally used in Lucknow. She purchsed this ring from a dealer, Mahendra, in Delhi in April 2009 for 550 Euros.","historicalContext":"Nose rings of this type were, according to Dr Ganguly, worn by women in Himachal Pradesh.","briefDescription":"Gold bulak with glass bead and pearls","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"Ganguly, W., Nose Rings of India, Delhi, 2015","id":"AUTH339313"},"details":"p.70, illus.","free":""}],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["IS.384-2019"],"accessionNumberNum":"384","accessionNumberPrefix":"IS","accessionYear":2019,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-16","recordCreationDate":"2015-06-23","availableToBook":true}}
