Whereas the front and sleeves are made from brightly coloured African dress fabric, the rear and cuffs are formed from upholstery fabric, which has been woven in purple and gold with a pineapple motif reminiscent of patterned Italian Renaissaince silks and velvets. The use of luxurious fabrics, and especially upholstery fabrics, is characteristic of Crolla designs. The front of the shirt is predominantly red with rectangular blocks of colour in green and white, and green, blue and ochre. The sleeves are shades of green and blue, patterned with horizontal stripes, and with rectangular blocks of colour in white, purple, blue and green.\r\n\r\nScott Crolla made his name in the 1980s as a high-end fashion designer. In 1981 he established the brand and fashion boutique 'Crolla' with fellow fashion designer Georgina Godley. The boutique was located on Dover Street, Mayfair. Quirly and eccentric, the brand - which was renowned for its use of lavish textiles and vintage fabrics - communicated a contemporary vision of Englishness. Originally solely a menswear line, a womenswear line was added in 1984, one year before the partnership between Crolla and Godley was dissolved. \r\n\r\nCrolla was among the brands respresented in the 2013 V&A exhibition, 'Club to Catwalk: London Fashion in the 1980s'.","physicalDescription":"A multi-coloured, woven cotton, men's shirt, made by London fashion designer Scott Crolla in the 1980s.
