Initially they specialised in chairs and other seat furniture with caned seats. By the end of the nineteenth century they were producing a wide variety of furniture forms for domestic and institutional use. After the Second World War the firm took a conscious decision to move away from its traditional forms of caned and bentwood furniture in favour of more up-to-date styles. This dining cabinet is from their 'Home-Planned Modern' range of blonde, or pale wood, furniture for the home. It is of plain, simple design, and was aimed at first-time home owners who were furnishing on a budget. The firm encouraged buyers to acquire pieces from the range a few at a time, promising them that such was the design of the 'Modern' range that future purchases would blend seamlessly with earlier ones.","physicalDescription":"Dining cabinet of birch with central bank of three equally sized drawers with a cupboard at either side, each cupboard has two adjustable shelves inside.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Carr, Joseph W.","id":"A21079"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"x36960"},"note":"possibly"}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Heywood-Wakefield","id":"A20801"},"association":{"text":"manufacturer","id":"x33306"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"Birch","id":"AAT11973"}],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Birch","categories":[{"text":"Furniture","id":"THES48948"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"FWK","id":"THES48597"},"images":["2015HK1279","2015HK1278","2006AN0841"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES342767"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES342767"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES342767"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES342767"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES342767"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES342767"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES342767"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES342767"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Cabinet","id":""}],[{"text":"Drawer","id":""}],[{"text":"Drawer","id":""}],[{"text":"Drawer","id":""}],[{"text":"Shelf","id":""}],[{"text":"Shelf","id":""}],[{"text":"Shelf","id":""}],[{"text":"Shelf","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"United States","id":"x29333"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1950","earliest":"1945-01-01","latest":"1954-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"32.5","unit":"in","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"47.5","unit":"in","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Depth","value":"18","unit":"in","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'PAT NO 2, 126,916 / M592 Sep 6 1951 / WHEAT'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Stamped on the back.
