She wrote the majority of the twenty-three Original Peter Rabbit Books between 1901 and 1913. <i>The Tale of Peter Rabbit</i> (Frederick Warne, 1902) is her most famous and best-loved tale. \r\n\r\nBeatrix Potter made many studies of flowers and was keenly interested in natural history. These notes and life-size sketches show Potter recording the look and characteristics of <i>Primula Scotica,</i> a plant with small purple flowers known as the Scottish primrose. Potter notes that the plant she has drawn came from Stromness, Orkney and has added the comments: ‘hard leaf & very strong scent like the garden auricula’.\r\n","physicalDescription":"Two small pencil and watercolour sketches of Primula Scotica with purple flowers and numerous pencil inscriptions on card.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Beatrix Potter","id":"A18000"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"pencil","id":"x30347"},{"text":"card","id":"x30344"},{"text":"watercolour (paint)","id":"AAT15045"}],"techniques":[{"text":"watercolour painting (technique)","id":"THES250889"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"watercolour and pencil on card","categories":[{"text":"Watercolours","id":"THES277714"},{"text":"Botanical art","id":"THES277744"},{"text":"Woman Artist","id":"THES387590"}],"styles":[{"text":"British","id":"AAT111159"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2020ML3522"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"004","id":"THES318118"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"watercolour (painting)","id":"AAT78925"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"21/07/1902","earliest":"1902-07-21","latest":"1902-07-21"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""},{"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Linder Bequest [plus object number; written on labels on the same line as the object number]","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"24","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"sheet","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"13","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"sheet","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'from Stromness / Orkney.
