The upper arc of the ring is beaten flat and engraved with a floral motif with a leafy frond tapering on either side. This engraving retains remnants of its original decoration of a green vitreous enamel on the stems and upper fronds with blue enamelling filling the lower fronds. The back of this part of the ring has a row of seven small rings through which are threaded coils of fine gold wire each with a minuscule seed pearl and a pendant concave trapezoid leaflet from which a further three concave pipal-shaped leaflets attached with twisted gold wire and seed pearls are attached.\nThe lower half of the ring is decorated with a series of slotted ornaments or threaded beads made up of two sets of mirrored ornamentation each comprising a die-stamped flower set on coiled wire, an imitation cylindrical coral bead between granulated discs, a double quatrefoil motif filled with red and green vitreous enamelling highlighted with white spots and granulated borders and a mother-of-pearl bead clasped between a pair of filigree ornaments. In the centre there are two pairs of granulated discs either side of a round imitation bead also encased in filigree. Between this central bead and the nacreous bead on its right there is a pendant ornament which was probably added at a later date. It is made up of a crescent-shaped motif filled with green enamel and gold spots with a red enamelled tear-shape within its two arms all bordered with granulation. It is attached to the main ring by means of a length of gold wire soldered onto the back plate of the crescent and twisted round the loop of the main ring and threaded with two green and one red elliptical beads. Five small rings are also soldered onto the back plate through which are threaded gold wires with suspended leaflets and seed pearls similar to those on the upper loop.","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Gold, pearls, mother-of-pearl, imitation coral, enamelling (<i>mina</i>), wirework and granulation","categories":[{"text":"Jewellery","id":"THES48930"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"SSEA","id":"THES48598"},"images":["2023NN4568","2023NN4569","2019MD2426","2019MD2405"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"007","id":"THES394905"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Nose ring","id":"AAT46005"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Punjab (India)","id":"x29839"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":"probably Bilaspur or possibly Himachal Pradesh"}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"20th century","earliest":"1900-01-01","latest":"1999-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Dr W.
