She made numerous studies of animals and plants from life and her keen eye for observation is also reflected in her book illustrations. This vivid study of a Boar fish was made during a stay in Weymouth; in her journal entry for 14 April 1895 Potter recorded that she ‘picked up a strange little red fish which I painted’.\r\n\r\nBeatrix Potter is one of the world's best-loved children's authors and illustrators. She wrote the majority of the twenty-three Original Peter Rabbit Books between 1901 and 1913. The Tale of Peter Rabbit (Frederick Warne, 1902) is her most famous and best-loved tale. \r\n","physicalDescription":"A sheet used in landscape format for a richly detailed study of a Boar fish in the centre, with watercolour vividly used to depict the body of the fish in oranges and yellow with grey-blue contrasts, and the eye in reddish-orange.
