Under Parnell, the Palladium presented large-scale spectacular pantomimes until 1987 and became known as the Home of Pantomime due to its lavish productions featuring the biggest celebrity names of the time. \r\n\r\nPuss in Boots starred comedian Tommy Trinder as Miffins and American double act George and Bert Bernard as Dandelion and Buttercup. The show’s scenery was designed by Charles Reading, with costumes for the Cat Ballet designed by Erte. \r\n&lt;i&gt;The Times&lt;/i&gt; described the show as “very pretty” and “the most spectacular of the three big London pantomimes” that year.\r\nThe production also featured a speciality act called Al Gordon’s Dogs.\r\n","physicalDescription":"Gouache and watercolour costume design for First Prince and Page in Act 2, Scene 8 of pantomime <i>Puss in Boots,</i> London Palladium, 1949. He is also wearing a turban, trimmed with feathers, and is carrying a cage containing a small bird before him. The costumes of both figures, and the background of the design, are executed in varying tones of pink, with highlights in silver. Handwritten notes relating to the costumes have been added to the base of the drawing in black ink.
