Famous for his Shakespearean roles, Tree also appeared in contemporary works, some more successful than others. <i>The Last of the Dandies</i>, based on the life of a real historic figure, Count Albert Guillaume d'Orsay, was considered 'sketchy' and 'picturesque, but dull' by reviewers.
