The A.T.S. was the women's branch of the British Army. This female soldier is dressed in military uniform and her marching steps are echoed in the column of male soldiers marching in line behind. In reality, at the start of the war A.T.S members were mainly employed as cooks, cleaners and secretaries as they were banned from battle.
