They were soon joined by the composer David Day (1850-1929), who had worked for the music publishing company Hopwood &amp; Crew. By 1873 they had taken a lease of Islington's Agricultural Hall where they staged shows until 1900. In 1877 they established the firm W.& J. Francis and Day, publishing lyrics of songs sung by the minstrels to be sold at the venue and encourage audience participation.
