While some jewellers re-cycle components to create a new perfection, he transforms them to a further realm of neglect or damage. Thus the redundant watch movement and braided wire of the ring are further distressed. However as with two negatives, the result becomes positive and a new and more surprising beauty is achieved. \r\n\r\nThis ring is one of forty-five pieces of jewellery given to the V&A from the collection of the late Louise Klapisch.","physicalDescription":"A broad band of braided metal wire which is rigid and blackened, in places mis-shapen and discoloured to green or red and with patches of enamel or resin randomly applied, creating an overall effect of disintegration. The bezel is formed from a circular watch plate, splodged with black and grey enamel through which a few remaining watch jewels are just visible. At its centre is set a lustrous pearl.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Bernhard Schobinger","id":"A36877"},"association":{"text":"designed and made by","id":"x28674"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"brass","id":"AAT10946"},{"text":"pearl","id":"AAT11827"},{"text":"steel","id":"AAT133751"},{"text":"enamel","id":"AAT14910"}],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Braided and distressed metal, watch fragments, enamel and pearl","categories":[{"text":"Jewellery","id":"THES48930"},{"text":"Metalwork","id":"THES48920"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"MET","id":"THES48599"},"images":["2015HR9567","2015HR9562","2015HR9565","2015HN9395","2015HN9396","2015HN9394","2015HN9397"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"91","id":"THES49703"},"free":"","case":"39","shelf":"D","box":"4"}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"ring","id":"x43339"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Switzerland","id":"x29199"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"2001","earliest":"2001-01-01","latest":"2001-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"The Louise Klapisch Collection, given by Suzanne Selvi","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"20","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Depth","value":"28","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"866 stamped on the side of the watch mechanism"}],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Ring of mixed materials set with a pearl, designed and made by Bernhard Schobinger, Switzerland, 2001","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["M.49-2014"],"accessionNumberNum":"49","accessionNumberPrefix":"M","accessionYear":2014,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-05-02","recordCreationDate":"2014-06-11","availableToBook":false}}
