In the formation of this particular collection of contemporary jewellery he played a guiding role, and this ring was one of the first pieces acquired.\r\n\r\nThe ring subtly combines grey gold with oxidised silver in a form which celebrates the roots as much as the flowers in stylized botanical form. According to Galerie TACTILe’s 2008 catalogue of his work, ‘Rings are essential jewels for Schaefer’ and for each ring ‘volume and weight, size sign, matter and colour – everything must merge, balance and harmonize to perfection’.\r\n\r\nThis ring is one of forty-five pieces of jewellery given to the V&A from the collection of the late Louise Klapisch.","physicalDescription":"A substantial oval band of dark grey metal divided laterally into six layers or strata each with a slightly different profile.
