One of the great 1940 hat successes [...] It may be a skull-cap. That most elemental kind of headgear is back. Talbot revived it, improved its basic virtues with flowers and a veil. The Duchess of Windsor saw it, liked it, wore it. An American commissionnaire rushed it to New York (and within the week, half a dozen women appeared with skull-capped heads at the Colony for lunch). That's it on the opposite page - a tiny black cap, touched off with pink and white roses, veiled in an entirely new way. It's nothing in the hand, but as engaging as anything ever put on a head."}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"The Gift of Gert Elfering","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"25.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"05/2014","earliest":"2014-05-01","latest":"2014-05-31"},"part":"whole","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"20.8","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"05/2014","earliest":"2014-05-01","latest":"2014-05-31"},"part":"whole","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Photograph by Horst P.
