They are both expensively dressed in furs and rich fabrics and wear chains of the Order of the Golden Fleece. They appear to be leaning on the sill of a window on tasselled cushions covered with Italian silks.\r\n\r\nAt the most, eight prints have been attributed to this artist, who sometimes incorporated elaborate architectural elements into his compositions, as can be seen here in the flanking columns. Some of his prints are signed with the initials CB and dated 1531 and feature the fir-cone emblem of the city of Augsburg. In this print the fir cone is at the centre of the picture at the top suspended from the pendant.","physicalDescription":"Etching","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Monogrammist CB","id":"A18294"},"association":{"text":"etcher","id":"AAT25174"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"printing ink","id":"AAT187371"}],"techniques":[{"text":"etching","id":"AAT53241"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Etching on paper","categories":[{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"},{"text":"Portraits","id":"THES48906"},{"text":"Royalty","id":"THES48899"}],"styles":[{"text":"Renaissance","id":"AAT21140"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2016JF9798"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLC (VA)","id":"THES49171"},"free":"","case":"GG","shelf":"38","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"print","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Augsburg","id":"x32552"},"association":{"text":"etched","id":"x37737"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1531","earliest":"1526-01-01","latest":"1535-12-31"},"association":{"text":"etched","id":"x37737"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"19.6","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"plate","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"27.7","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"plate","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"20.1","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"sheet","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"28.6","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"sheet","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'58'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Number added to the plate, not present in British Museum impression shown in The Illustrated Bartsch, although two prints by the same artist in that collection are number with similar lettering 35 and 193."},{"content":"Fir cone (?)","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"The emblem of Augsburg"}],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"In 1531 the year of the date given on three of the five prints recorded by Bartsch by this artist, Bartel Beham produced a pair of engravings of Charles V and Ferdinand I.
