They were mass-produced for popular consumption:  their subjects reflecting the tastes and interests of their city-dwelling buyersers.\r\n\r\nThis fan print shows the close bond between ukiyo-e and contemporary popular culture. Kuniyoshi depicts two scenes from plays that had been performed earlier in the year. \r\n\r\nIn the right-hand image, he depicts two women, caricatured as toads, fighting in a garden; while on the left, he portrays a game of Toad-Tiger-Fox, much like our Scissors-Paper-Stone.","physicalDescription":"Woodblock print.
