Rouleaux, composed of tubular lengths of bias-cut fabric padded out with lambs' wool, were a favourite decorative device. Four satin rouleaux decorate the hem of this gown, rising to a point in the centre front, and complementing the trimmings of the bodice and sleeves.\r\n\r\nThis diaphanous dress would have been worn over a light silk slip in a pale colour, sometimes contrasting with the trimmings.
