This ornament is associated with the presentation to J.C. Robinson of the badge of the Order of Sant' Iago (A.3-2006). It is possible that it was commissioned personally by him, to be worn in conjunction with, or at other times than, the Order itself. John Charles Robinson (1824-1913), curator, scholar and collector, worked at the V&A in its earliest days and was a very important figure in the formation of the collections.","physicalDescription":"Oval openwork pendant consisting of an oval outer frame, enamelled in turquoise, enclosing a gold cross based on the design of the Order of Sant' Iago (A.3-2006) and set with rubies.
