Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli designed this gown for the house of Valentino's couture collection for Autumn-Winter 2013-14. Valentino Garavani, the founder, retired in 2008. Subsequently, Chiuri and Piccioli had the challenge of providing clients with a fresh, modern interpretation of the craftsmanship and design traditions of the fashion house. This gown juxtaposes the highest-quality traditional embroidery and stitching techniques with the startling impact of silk panels beautifully painted with botanically-accurate flowers and non-traditional motifs such as a rhinoceros, snake and seahorse.
