The body is high-fired. The innovative feature is the appliqué decoration of grape vine highlighted in brown, providing a pleasing contrast against the buff colour of the object. The decoration would have been made separately from a mould, then adhered to the ewer, and finally a layer of brown glaze applied over it.","physicalDescription":"Changsha","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Stoneware, glazed","categories":[{"text":"Containers","id":"THES48972"}],"styles":[{"text":"Tang","id":"AAT18420"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"EAS","id":"THES48596"},"images":["2009CD6819","2006BC5491"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"145 (VA)","id":"THES49865"},"free":"","case":"33","shelf":"3","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Ewer","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Hunan","id":"x29897"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"700-900","earliest":"0700-01-01","latest":"0900-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Purchased with Art Fund support, the Vallentin Bequest, Sir Percival David and the Universities China Committee","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"20.3","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Changsha; Cer, China, TANG, HIGH FIRED and GLAZED; Early China","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[{"text":"Glazed ewer with painted and splashed decoration\r\nSouthern China, Changsha, Tang dynasty, 700-900, with applied decoration and brown splashes\r\nMuseum no.
