The puppet character actually named Kasper first appeared in Munich in 1858 in the marionette play <i>The Enchanted Lily </i>by Franz Graf Pocci (1807-1876). Like his cousin Punch, the early Kasper used a slapstick to beat the Devil, Witch, and Crocodile. \n\nThis photograph is labelled Kasperl Larifari, and is credited as the puppet used in Pocci's play The Enchanted Lily at Oskar Barthold's marionette theatre.\r\n\r\n","physicalDescription":"Black and white photograph of the marionette Kasperl from the waist upwards, looking to his right.
