Ward was particularly known for her tragic roles, and achieved success in both America and England, undertaking lengthy national and international tours. She became the first actress to be created a dame commander in the Order of the British Empire in 1921 and died on 18 August 1922 at 22 Avenue Road, London.\r\n","physicalDescription":"Full length sketch entitled 'Genl.
