She wrote the majority of the Original Peter Rabbit Books between 1901 and 1913.  The Tale of Peter Rabbit (Frederick Warne, 1902) is her most famous and best-loved tale.  \r\n\r\nBefore her marriage in 1913, Beatrix Potter would accompany her family on long summer holidays in the countryside.  She would escape outdoors with her sketchbook, making careful drawings of plants and animals, buildings and gardens, some of which appear in the backgrounds of her book illustrations.\r\n\r\nFrom 1 August - 23 October 1884, the family rented Bush Hall on the River Lea in Hertfordshire.  Beatrix Potter recorded her impressions in her journal: 'The house is an extraordinary scrambling old place, red brick, two and three stories [sic], tiled, ivied, with little attic windows.'
