He opened his first hat shop in 1946 and is still in business with his premises on Beauchamp Place. Boyd is favourite hat designer of the royal family and is well known for his designs for Diana, Princess of Wales.  \r\n\r\nHats were considered an essential fashion accessory in the 1950s. The two main styles during this time were small, and often very elaborate, skull-caps, or wide ‘saucer’ hats.
