Community Printshops 1970-1986':\r\n\r\nDOCKLANDS COMMUNITY POSTER PROJECT. Photograph of a photo-mural - 18' x 12', constructed as a hand coloured photographic print. The original photo-mural is displayed on a number of sites. Its aim is to encourage local action against the proposed Canary Wharf office development in London's ex-Docklands. Local objections to the development include: expected increase in the volume of traffic; housing development not catering for local people; jobs created not related to local needs; the amount of public money being used in a speculative venture. 1987."},{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"The following information was provided by Loraine Leeson:\r\n\r\n<i>One-off photo-mural for The Changing Picture of Docklands displayed as 18ft x 12ft (5.49m x 3.66m) photo-murals on billboard sites in and around the London Docklands. Created by Peter Dunn, © Peter Dunn and Loraine Leeson, Docklands Community Poster Project, 1987.\r\nThis photo-mural was part of that action with also included small scale posters, flyers, leaflets and demonstrations. The scheme included three of the largest towers ever seen in Europe and was predicated on the so-called 'Big Bang', the deregulation of the London stock exchange. The images used came out of discussions with local people. Birds kept coming up as metaphors: the name of the site, the height of the towers, the Docklands Development Corporation's advertising mascot -the crow -the American eagle (then Credit Swisse First Boston) and the looming vultures.\r\n</i>"}],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[{"text":"Canary Wharf","id":"x39151"},{"text":"","id":""}],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[{"text":"birds","id":"x35774"},{"text":"","id":""}],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["E.512-2013"],"accessionNumberNum":"512","accessionNumberPrefix":"E","accessionYear":2013,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-11-07","recordCreationDate":"2013-11-20","availableToBook":false}}
