They took over an existing screen printing shop and turned it into a community printing workshop, focusing predominantly on engaging with local feminist, anti-racist and LGBTQ+ rights groups. Their ethos was 'once you start seeing yourself as a person who can do things then you're in a position to take control of your life'. Running various courses, in particular for women of colour and queer communities, their premises at 81 Lenthall Road was a valued creative hub which lasted for approximately 15 years. Their work and legacy was celebrated in a 2019 retrospective at the Hackney Museum entitled 'Women on Screens: Printmaking, Photography and Community Activism at Lenthall Road Workshop 1970s-1990s'.","physicalDescription":"Laminated poster reading 'WONT; Women Oppose the Nuclear Threat; Take the toys from the boys.'","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Mansueto, Connie","id":"AUTH411377"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Lenthall Road Workshop","id":"AUTH328119"},"association":{"text":"printers","id":"AAT25732"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"paper","id":"x30308"}],"techniques":[{"text":"screen printing","id":"AAT53281"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Wax resist stencils","categories":[{"text":"Posters","id":"THES252963"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2014GW4524"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLC","id":"THES49171"},"free":"","case":"GG","shelf":"141","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Poster","id":"AAT27221"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Hackney","id":"x29471"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1983","earliest":"1983-01-01","latest":"1983-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by the Greenwich Mural Workshop.","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"52.8","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"40.9","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"The artist provided the following information in 2025:\n\nThis is the second edition of the poster. The first was printed on yellow paper and sold out, but upon starting a second edition, there wasn't any yellow left so pink was used. The address on the poster, 5 Caledonian Road, remains the home of Housman's Bookshop and they allowed WONT (Women Oppose the Nuclear Threat) to use the bookshop address to receive post. WONT was comprised of a small group of women, some of whom also worked on Spare Rib magazine. They usually met at in a flat off the Holloway Road and were active in a lot of protests against cruise missiles coming to the UK including at the long-running women's anti-nuclear camp at Greenham Common.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Poster designed and printed by Connie Mansueto at The Lenthall Road Workshop for 'WONT' (Women Oppose the Nuclear Threat).
