To raise awareness of the paper and drive sales, the South African based advertising agency TBWA/Hunt/Lascaris developed the Trillion Dollar campaign comprising of billboards, posters and flyers printed on Zimbabwean bank notes. The campaign highlighted the fact that Zimbabwe's hyperinflation had rendered them worth less than the paper they were printed on. The campaign represented an innovative and subversive use of materials to provide a powerful graphic representation of economic disaster. The campaign also won numerous awards around the world, including Africa's first Black Pencil award from the D&AD, an annual competition aimed at rewarding outstanding design.","physicalDescription":"letterpress in black printed on Zimbabwean bank notes","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"TBWA","id":"C8266"},"association":{"text":"advertising agency","id":"x36037"},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"The Zimbabwean","id":"AUTH332779"},"association":{"text":"client","id":"AAT25833"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"paper","id":"x30308"}],"techniques":[{"text":"letterpress","id":"AAT178926"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"letterpress","categories":[{"text":"Africa","id":"THES49019"},{"text":"Politics","id":"THES48908"},{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"},{"text":"Interiors","id":"THES48933"},{"text":"Household objects","id":"THES48939"},{"text":"Shekou","id":"THES279777"},{"text":"Values of Design","id":"THES279818"},{"text":"Design Society","id":"THES279819"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2014HD3763"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"WS001","id":"THES388375"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Poster","id":"AAT27221"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"South Africa","id":"x30058"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"2009","earliest":"2009-01-01","latest":"2009-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":"about"}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by TBWA/Hunt/Lascaris","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"996","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"745","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"IT IS CHEAPER TO PRINT THIS ON MONEY THAN ON PAPER","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""}],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"'It is cheaper to print this on money than on paper', letterpress on Zimbabwean bank notes by TBWA/Hunt/Lascaris for the Zimbabwean Newspaper, South Africa,","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[{"text":"<b>Human rights </b>\n\nClever design can create attention-grabbing human rights campaigns. \n\r\nHarry Pearce’s poster uses typography to emphasise the word ‘infant’ in ‘infantry’, highlighting the fact child soldiers are sometimes used in armed conflict.
