Bishop, was a round, originally sung by Madame Vestris, Mr A. Lee & M. La Porte, in the operatic comedy The Rencontre at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in 1826. Emma Sarah Love (1798-1881) was a Covent Garden, Drury Lane and Little Theatre vocalist and actress who began in minor roles and chorus work at the New English Opera House in 1817 and by the 1828 to 1829 season was a leading performer at Drury Lane Theatre. Her career ended in 1829 however after she abandoned her husband and eloped with the Earl of Harborough.\n\nEmma Sarah Love sang at Vauxhall Gardens in the summer of 1826, and since this was originally sung by Madame Vestris in 1826, similarly dressed as a Bavarian girl, it is likely that this music sheet dates from 1827, 1828 or 1829. The illustration shows the broom seller in a London garden square, in front of a terrace of Georgian houses identified as the publishers Goulding D'Almaine, who printed this music sheet. A lithograph of Miss Love as The Broom Girl was printed by J. Dickinson on 17th January 1827.","physicalDescription":"Music sheet cover and music for Buy a Broom.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Bishop, Henry R.","id":"A31360"},"association":{"text":"composer","id":"AAT25671"},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"Planché, James Robinson","id":"A32586"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Goulding, D'Almaine, Potter & Co","id":"AUTH327459"},"association":{"text":"publisher","id":"x32600"},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"Engelmann, Graf, Coindet & Co.","id":"A5157"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"paper","id":"x30308"},{"text":"ink","id":"AAT15012"}],"techniques":[{"text":"printing","id":"AAT53319"},{"text":"lithography","id":"AAT53271"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Lithograph","categories":[{"text":"Entertainment & Leisure","id":"THES48959"},{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&P","id":"THES48602"},"images":["2014GX2729"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"007","id":"THES356699"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"sheet music","id":"AAT26430"}],[{"text":"prints","id":"AAT41273"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"published","id":"x30682"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1827","earliest":"1822-01-01","latest":"1831-12-31"},"association":{"text":"published","id":"x30682"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"S.181-2009","id":"O182276"},"association":""},{"object":{"text":"S.5337-2009","id":"O1153795"},"association":""}],"creditLine":"Gabrielle Enthoven Collection","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"34","unit":"cm","qualifier":"approx","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"front cover","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"24","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"front cover","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Music sheet for Buy A Broom! the admired air sung by Miss Love, or Emma Sarah Love (1798-1881) at the Royal Gardens, Vauxhall.
