It belongs to the so-called Cizhou wares, after the name of one of the major centres of production in north China that flourished during the Song- Jin period (960-1234) and the Ming dynasty (1368-1644). Cizhou ware was characterised by a decoration consisting of painted, incised, or carved motifs highlighted in black, white or brown on a monochrome ground. In this example, the final pattern is executed by cutting through the glaze to create a strong contrast between the black glaze and the sandy buff coloured body of the jar.","physicalDescription":"Stoneware jar with decorative pattern cut through the black glaze (Cizhou ware)","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"stoneware","id":"x30197"}],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Stoneware","categories":[{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"},{"text":"Stoneware","id":"THES48890"}],"styles":[{"text":"Jin (Golden Tartars)","id":"AAT106415"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"EAS","id":"THES48596"},"images":["2013GR0432","2013GR0429","2013GR0427","2006BF5563","2017JW3156"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"44","id":"THES49802"},"free":"","case":"CA4","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Wine jar","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"China","id":"x29398"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1115-1234","earliest":"1115-01-01","latest":"1234-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"27.3","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Cut glaze design; Cer, China, Song, Cizhou ware","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[{"text":"Jar with cut-glaze design \r\nJin dynasty (1115-1234)\r\nCizhou kilns, north China\r\n\r\nStoneware with black glaze\r\nMuseum no.
