Those priced at fourpence (pre decimal currency) contained an average content of 48 matches, and those priced one and a halfpence (pre decimal currency) contained an average of 49 matches. Other versions of the 1970s matchbox have different doodles on the back of the sleeve, and a wartime version has no printed price but bears the legend 'Matches are precious - make them last'.
