Sosuke later further developed this technique into musen (wireless) enamels which took their design inspiration from Japanese ink paintings and woodblock printed books showing scenes of birds and flowers. Sosuke was appointed Imperial Craftsman in 1896 and became one of the most important and influential artist-craftsmen of the Meiji period (1868-1912).","physicalDescription":"","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Namikawa Sosuke","id":"A38135"},"association":{"text":"Maker","id":"x40240"},"note":"Possibly the work of Namikawa Sosuke"}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"","categories":[{"text":"Metalwork","id":"THES48920"},{"text":"Vases","id":"THES48879"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"EAS","id":"THES48596"},"images":["2013GK7409","2013GR6082","2013GK7408"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"SHLN","id":"THES49063"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"SHLN","id":"THES49063"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Vase","id":"AAT132254"}],[{"text":"Vase","id":"AAT132254"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Japan","id":"x29399"},"association":{"text":"Made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"c.1900","earliest":"1895-01-01","latest":"1904-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Purchased by the Edwin Davies Fund","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"60","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Pair of vases decorated in cloisonne enamels with crows in shidare zakura (hanging cherry) trees, possibly the work of Namikawa Sosuke, Japan, ca.1900.","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[{"text":"Pair of vases with crows and hanging cherry blossom\r\nAbout 1900\r\nUnsigned\r\nTokyo\r\nCopper with cloisonné enamels, gilded brass wires; gilded brass rims\r\nEdwin Davies Fund\r\nMuseum nos.
