The girdle itself is composed of ten oblong openwork links, hinged together, each filled with symmetrical foliage ornament that includes the half-figure of a man and a central scroll bearing part of an engraved inscription. Two circular ornaments of openwork foliage enclosed in a plaited ring are also attached to the velvet belt. The silver-gilt belt end is cast with figures of Minerva and Venus, enclosed in a frame of strap-work. A silver-gilt medallion hangs from the belt end, cast with a relief of David playing the harp before Saul on the front, and engraved on the back with a bird among foliage. A gothic letter 'm', in silver gilt, is suspended from two loops attached to the belt end and from three loops attached to the medallion. Museum records note the piece was 'said to have belonged to Queen Christina of Sweden (1626-1689)', although there is no evidence of this on the girdle itself. The five silver-gilt crowned letter 'M's suspended from the belt end and medallion are almost certainly a reference to the Virgin Mary, Queen of Heaven.
