Originally drawn by Mary Tourtel, he is probably best known through the illustrations of Alfred Bestall. Rupert has gone on to further fame as a television character as well as still appearing in book form.","physicalDescription":"An unjointed toy bear with a white face, hands and feet. The body material suggests that it is dressed in a red long sleeved top and yellow checked trousers. There is a matching yellow checked scarf around the neck. The material varies - the head and hands are plush, the top and feet are flocked and the trousers and scarf are smooth. The toy is soft filled with beans in the arms, bottom and feet.\r\nThe eyes are black plastic and the nose and mouth embroidered in black thread. There is a label sewn into the seam between the top and the trousers on the back left-hand side. It is printed with the Boots logo and information about Rupert on one side, and the CE safety mark, the company's address and washing instructions on the other.\n","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Boots UK Limited","id":"AUTH326122"},"association":{"text":"distributor","id":"x29579"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"polyester","id":"AAT14546"}],"techniques":[{"text":"stitching","id":"x29587"},{"text":"stuffing","id":"AAT231130"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Stitched and stuffed polyester","categories":[{"text":"Children & Childhood","id":"THES48980"},{"text":"Dolls & Toys","id":"THES48967"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"YVA","id":"THES48593"},"images":[],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"SR011","id":"THES341117"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"SR011","id":"THES341117"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"teddy bear","id":"AAT211334"}],[{"text":"character dolls","id":"AAT222451"}],[{"text":"scarf","id":"AAT46123"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"China","id":"x29398"},"association":{"text":"manufactured","id":"x29350"},"note":"probably"}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1990s","earliest":"1990-01-01","latest":"1999-12-31"},"association":{"text":"manufactured","id":"x29350"},"note":"probably"}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Audrey Davidson","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"16.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"maximum","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Polyester Rupert Bear soft toy with scarf made for  Boots probably in China in the 1990s","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"Mass produced","id":"THES48863"},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["B.140:1-2012","B.140:2-2012"],"accessionNumberNum":"140","accessionNumberPrefix":"B","accessionYear":2012,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2026-05-11","recordCreationDate":"2013-07-01","availableToBook":false}}
