As decorative elements for jewellery they were stamped out from thin gold sheet and enamelled, then arranged on a background of woven hair and covered with a glittering dome of faceted rock crystal.\r\n\r\nThe slide was a very popular type of jewel at this date. Fitted with two flat loops at the back, a ribbon of silk or woven hair would be threaded through enabling it to be worn around the neck or wrist.","physicalDescription":"Gold slide, with four enamelled gold cherubs and a cipher on a background of hair, under rock crystal","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"gold","id":"AAT11021"},{"text":"hair","id":"AAT11814"},{"text":"enamel","id":"AAT14910"},{"text":"rock crystal","id":"AAT11152"}],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Enamelled gold with hair and rock crystal","categories":[{"text":"Metalwork","id":"THES48920"},{"text":"Jewellery","id":"THES48930"},{"text":"Death","id":"THES48970"},{"text":"Accessories","id":"THES48998"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"MET","id":"THES48599"},"images":["2006BH1237","2006BH1236"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"91M","id":"THES49137"},"free":"","case":"81","shelf":"D1","box":"17"}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Slide","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"England","id":"x28826"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1690","earliest":"1685-01-01","latest":"1694-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Miss Jessie Turtle","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"2","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"2.3","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Depth","value":"1","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Gold slide, with four enamelled gold cherubs and a cipher on a background of hair, under rock crystal, made in England, about 1690","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[{"text":"putti","id":"AAT250465"},{"text":"monograms","id":"AAT10038"}],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["M.31-1951"],"accessionNumberNum":"31","accessionNumberPrefix":"M","accessionYear":1951,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":["2019LN5352","2019LT1494","2019LU7705","2022NF5819"],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-16","recordCreationDate":"2006-07-18","availableToBook":false}}
