London, 1988","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"The following information was provided by Loraine Leeson:\n<i>\nOne-off photo-mural for The Changing Picture of Docklands displayed as 18ft x 12ft (5.49m x 3.66m) photo-murals on billboard sites in and around the London Docklands. Created by Peter Dunn, © Peter Dunn and Loraine Leeson, Docklands Community Poster Project, 1988.\r\nThis photo-mural refers to another campaign that had as its slogan ‘A fair deal for Newham’, in which the local council were engaged s an attempt to make a planning-gain deal with the developers. Local people did not think very highly of what the council had achieved at that point and this photomural was part of a campaign to get the council to push harder. Once again the community activists felt that their campaign should be linked visually to the two previous campaigns further up river via the 'Big Money' metaphor. References are made to the two previous ‘Big Money’ images in the first sequence of photo-murals, geographically as well as temporally, as the development rolls eastward - the first ‘Big Money’ skyline is located in Wapping, the location of the first billboard and where the development began; the Canary Wharf towers of money are located on the Isle of Dogs (shown by the distinctive bend in the river) and the vultures turn into jets as they approach the area where the new airport is located in the Royal Docks.
