'Pugin was reported in Builder,III (1845), to have designed a Cathedral for Liverpool, but the actual result was the modest chapel at Bishop Eton, which was built for Bishop George Brown, Vicar Apostolic of the Lancashire District between 1840 and 1850 (reference Dr. R.O'Donell)' Alexandra Wedgwood, A.W.N. Pugin and the Pugin Family Catalogues of Architectural Drawings in the V&A, (V&A, 1985), pp.60 & 93.\n\nThe design was in the embroidery workshops of the Community of St John the Baptist and was given by the sisters to the V&A. ","historicalContext":"The Sisters of the Community of St John the Baptist also known as 'the Clewer Sisters', because they were originally based at Clewer near Windsor, used the design to embroider the mitre. The design is pricked and pounced with pink and black pounce for transfer of the design to the textile of the mitre prior to embroidery.
