Described as 'a musical play in two acts', it is set in Seville and concerns a Princess, played by Desiree Ellinger, who was abducted by slave traders. She is discovered in the slave market by Prince Nurriden, to whom she was betrothed as a child. The cast included Gregory Stroud as the Prince, and the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company performer, Courtice Pounds, as the Notary, Ben-Ib-ben. The First Kiss opened at the New Oxford Theatre, London, on 10 November 1924 and, despite its elaborate settings and costumes, it was criticised as 'rather poor material' and ran for no more that 43 performances.\n\nThe Dolores Sisters, identical twins who performed as a variety act, featured in the production as twins, Lola and Lula. The sisters kept this poster as a souvenir.","physicalDescription":"Typographic, printed in red and black on buff-coloured paper.","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"John Waddington Ltd.","id":"A4538"},"association":{"text":"printed","id":"x38483"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Letterpress","categories":[{"text":"Entertainment & Leisure","id":"THES48959"},{"text":"Advertising","id":"THES49001"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&P","id":"THES48602"},"images":["2014HD7361"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"007","id":"THES345150"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"posters","id":"AAT27221"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"printed","id":"x46159"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1924","earliest":"1924-01-01","latest":"1924-12-31"},"association":{"text":"printed","id":"x46159"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Dolores Albertina Blackham","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"76.3","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"poster","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"50.4","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"poster","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":" ","type":"","note":""}],"objectHistory":"The performers noted on the poster are Desirée Ellinger, Courtice Pounds, Aimée Bebb, Gertrude McCoy, Gregory Stroud, Percy Parsons, Clifton Alderson, Denier Warren, Lolita Hamilton, V.
