Inspired by the informal clothes worn by artists, dancers and musicians, Bazaar sold an eclectic mix of women's clothes, accessories and costume jewellery. The clothes were decidedly modern. ‘I want relaxed clothes,’ said Quant, ‘suited to the actions of normal life’. \r\n\r\nSome of Mary Quant’s early designs combined historical garments and traditional men’s suitings, such as pin stripes and grey flannel, in playful and subversive ways. In this design she re-works knickerbockers taken from Victorian underwear into a quirky daytime ensemble.","physicalDescription":"","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Mary Quant","id":"A2349"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"x36960"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"","categories":[{"text":"Fashion","id":"THES48957"},{"text":"Clothing","id":"THES48975"},{"text":"Europeana Fashion Project","id":"THES265804"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2018KP4737","2018KP5473","2018KP5477","2018KP5478","2006BK8587","2017KL1856","2017KL1857"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"010","id":"THES307998"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"010","id":"THES307998"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"010","id":"THES307998"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"005","id":"THES326465"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Knickerbockers","id":""}],[{"text":"Belt","id":""}],[{"text":"Dress","id":""}],[{"text":"Hat","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"retailed","id":"x30772"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1958","earliest":"1958-01-01","latest":"1958-12-31"},"association":{"text":"designed","id":"x29338"},"note":""},{"date":{"text":"1973","earliest":"1973-01-01","latest":"1973-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Mary Quant","dimensions":[],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'MARY QUANT / MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Woven label in each garment"}],"objectHistory":"No 7 in the London Museum Mary Quant exhibition, 1974.
