It consists of six identical drawer units which can be stacked in various configurations, without fixings. When stacked one above the other, the unit recalls an early 19th-century chiffonier, or narrow chest with six drawers. It is not, however, constructed using traditional cabinet-making techniques, with the exception of the drawers. Instead, the visible wooden stick elements are glued onto manufactured drawer units. ","physicalDescription":"A walnut chest of drawers, consisting of six identical stacking units. Each unit contains one drawer. The units are constructed as a box, inside which the drawer sits on steel runners. Long rectangular strips of walnut are glued to the sides of the boxes, with shorter blocks glued to the front and back. This creates the illusion that each unit is made up of a stack of wood.\r\n\r\n","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Boris Dennler","id":"AUTH320486"},"association":{"text":"designed","id":"x40048"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"walnut","id":"AAT12476"},{"text":"glue","id":"AAT14815"},{"text":"steel","id":"AAT133751"}],"techniques":[{"text":"glueing","id":"AAT53012"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Walnut and steel, glued","categories":[{"text":"Furniture","id":"THES48948"},{"text":"Interiors","id":"THES48933"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"FWK","id":"THES48597"},"images":["2012FR0381","2012FR0378","2012FR0379","2012FR0405","2012FR0407","2012FR0409","2012FR0410","2012FR0411","2012FR0412","2012FR0418","2012FR0419","2012FR0421"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"CA002","id":"THES388272"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"CA002","id":"THES388272"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"CA002","id":"THES388272"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"CA002","id":"THES388272"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"CA002","id":"THES388272"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"CA002","id":"THES388272"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Chest of drawers","id":""}],[{"text":"Chest of drawers","id":""}],[{"text":"Chest of drawers","id":""}],[{"text":"Chest of drawers","id":""}],[{"text":"Chest of drawers","id":""}],[{"text":"Chest of drawers","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Switzerland","id":"x29199"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"2012","earliest":"2012-01-01","latest":"2012-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Purchased by the Design Fund","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"66","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"78","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Depth","value":"76","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Weight","value":"103.15","unit":"kg","qualifier":"nifill","date":{"text":"13/04/2022","earliest":"2022-04-13","latest":"2022-04-13"},"part":"Whole Cabinet","note":"Each part weighs between 17.5kg - 17.30kg"}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Chest of drawers, 'Wooden Heap, designed by Boris Dennler, walnut and steel, 2012\n\nStacking chest of drawers, forms part of Boris Dennler's 'Wooden Heap' cabinet, 2012\n\nStacking chest of drawers, forms part of Boris Dennler's 'Wooden Heap' cabinet, 2012\n\nStacking chest of drawers, forms part of Boris Dennler's 'Wooden Heap' cabinet, 2012\n\nStacking chest of drawers, forms part of Boris Dennler's 'Wooden Heap' cabinet, 2012\n\nStacking chest of drawers, forms part of Boris Dennler's 'Wooden Heap' cabinet, 2012","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[{"text":"chests of drawers","id":"AAT39009"}],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[{"text":"‘Wooden Heap’ drawer unit\r\n2012\r\nBorisLab: Boris Dennler (born 1976)\r\n\r\nSwitzerland (Fribourg)\r\nMade by Société ARCA, Paris\r\n\r\nWalnut\r\nDrawers: walnut, with manufactured runners in steel and plastic \r\nNumber 4 from an edition of 8 \r\nPurchased by the Design Fund\r\nMuseum no.
