Trained at High Wycombe College of Technology and Art (1965-69) and the Royal College of Art (1969-72), he taught at Buckinghamshire College of Higher Education and the Camberwell College of Arts and Design before joining the staff at the Royal College of Art in 1976. In 1984 he was made Senior Tutor at the RCA and in 2006, Professor. He has exhibited in group and solo shows in the UK, America, Australia and the Far East.  In 1988 he was the winner of the Sotheby's Decorative Arts Award; and in 1998 he was a prizewinner in the European Prize for Contemporary Art and Design-led Crafts organised by the World Crafts Council. In 2002, he was the recipient of the Golden Ring of Honour from the association of German Goldsmiths, the Gesellschaft für Goldschmidekunst.  A major retrospective of his work, <u>Michael Rowe: Poetics and Geometry</u>, which included this box was held at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery in 2003.","physicalDescription":"Box, consisting of silver and nine carat gold. The base is a trapezium, the sides flat sheets of silver, the bifurcated back extending beyond the sloping rim, one section folded over at the top at an acute angle, the lower left hand section tilts forward at a 45° angle across the left hand face of the box, a rectangular wing extends from the rim on the right hand side.
