It depicts visitors to a 19th century fair or fairground. They are walking up the steps to the entrance of a tented structure, probably a 'Dancing Saloon'. The show-front is illustrated with images of music sheet covers which feature singers of the day, George Leybourne, Bessie Bonehill, Charles Godfrey, and T.W. Barrett, as if they were painted fairground show-fronts. The platform in front of the booth is populated by a brass band, a drummer, a trumpeter, two white-faced clowns, a pantaloon, and a barker holding a stick aloft, hectoring for custom.\n\r\nWarwick Williams was well known for writing pieces of music, such as this quadrille, that included and popularised tunes from music hall songs. Alfred Concanen was one of the leading lithographers of his day, and perhaps the most versatile and prolific of all the Victorian music sheet illustrators.\r\n","physicalDescription":"Sheet music for 'Fun of the Fair'. Song credits and publication details are printed at the bottom of the cover. The sheet music is on the back.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Alfred Concanen","id":"A8266"},"association":{"text":"lithographer","id":"AAT25175"},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"Warwick Williams","id":"A34472"},"association":{"text":"composers","id":"AAT25671"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Francis, Day & Hunter Ltd","id":"A21574"},"association":{"text":"publishers","id":"AAT25574"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"paper","id":"x30308"},{"text":"ink","id":"AAT15012"}],"techniques":[{"text":"chromolithography","id":"AAT53272"},{"text":"printing","id":"AAT53319"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Chromolithograph","categories":[{"text":"Entertainment & Leisure","id":"THES48959"},{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"},{"text":"Fairs","id":"THES271613"},{"text":"Music","id":"THES253065"},{"text":"Advertising","id":"THES49001"},{"text":"Music Hall","id":"THES267742"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&P","id":"THES48602"},"images":["2014GW6249","2013GV7367"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"004","id":"THES356696"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"sheet music","id":"AAT26430"}],[{"text":"music","id":"AAT54146"}],[{"text":"scores","id":"AAT26427"}],[{"text":"prints","id":"AAT41273"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"printed","id":"x46159"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1882","earliest":"1882-01-01","latest":"1882-12-31"},"association":{"text":"printed and published","id":"x35383"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"S.1-2009","id":"O181208"},"association":"Object"},{"object":{"text":"S.776-2019","id":"O1517830"},"association":"Duplicate"}],"creditLine":"Given by John Hall","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"34.0","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"24.8","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'FUN OF THE FAIR / TAKE ME IN YOUR ARMS LOVE / SUNG BY / GEORGE LEYBOURNE / SHOULDER TO SHOULDER / SUNG BY / MISS BESSIE BONEHILL / THE FLIPPITY FLOP YOUNG MAN / SUNG BY / CHARLES GODFREY / FRANCIS AND DAY'S ANNUAL / TINKLE TINKLE TUM / SUNG BY CHARLES GODFREY / WE ARE A MAGIC FAMILY / SUNG BY / T.W.
