It is by Pasquale Novissimo (1844-1914) who was chief designer to the jewellery manufacturer, Carlo Giuliano (1826-95). He worked for Giuliano from the opening of the Piccadilly branch in London from 1874 until just before his death in 1914. \n\nPasquale designed stage jewellery for an Italian opera company while travelling with his brother, Giovanni, who was a member of the company. He was influenced by objects excavated at Pompeii. This drawing for an earring is in the Neo-Renaissance style, of about the 1874-1890.","physicalDescription":"Design for a pendant earring, one of nine on a sheet of card, with a pearl like the centre of a flower with blue petals from which hangs a blue, two-handled vase-shape. with a pendant pearl.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Pasquale Novissimo","id":"A15345"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28674"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Carlo Giuliano","id":"A22078"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":"Novissimo was chief designer to Carlo Giuliano, the jewellery manufacturer."}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"graphite","id":"AAT11098"},{"text":"ink","id":"AAT15012"},{"text":"bodycolour","id":"x34671"},{"text":"card","id":"x30344"},{"text":"watercolour","id":"x33202"}],"techniques":[{"text":"drawing","id":"x32498"},{"text":"painting","id":"x30598"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"graphite, pen and ink, watercolour and bodycolour on card.","categories":[{"text":"Designs","id":"THES48968"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2012FG9552"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLF","id":"THES49656"},"free":"","case":"EDUC","shelf":"10J","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Design","id":"AAT102051"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca.1874-1890","earliest":"1869-01-01","latest":"1890-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"The gift of Dr Jacqueline Egerton","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"33.4","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"card","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"24.6","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"card","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'D. / NOVISSIMO' on a sticky label on the back of the mount\r\n","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"This probably stands for 'Mrs Daphne Novissimo'."}],"objectHistory":"The designs came to the V&A by descent through the Novissimo family.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Design for a pendant earring, by Pasquale Novissimo, ca.1874-1890.","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"plate caption and plate","free":"Munn, G.
