The project was conceived by Noonan while studying for his Masters in Architecture at the Bartlett School of Architecture in 2010. \r\n\r\nThe concept behind these designs is that the reforestation of the Thames Estuary takes place in a future where timber is to become London's main building resource and the river Thames once again becomes a working river, transporting timber throughout the city. Noonan also proposes the John Evelyn Institute of Arboreal Science as a centre for the development and promotion of the use of timber in the construction of London's future architecture. It is named after John Evelyn (1620-1706) who wrote treatises confronting Britain's lack of natural resources.\r\n","physicalDescription":"Design, a series of sketches of log piles, timber structures, cranes and workers drawn using black pen and indian ink on a single piece of architectural drafting film.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Tom Noonan","id":"AUTH317205"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"x36960"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"pen","id":"x47746"},{"text":"indian ink","id":"x32680"},{"text":"drafting film","id":"x44978"},{"text":"","id":""}],"techniques":[{"text":"drawn","id":"x30545"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Black pen and indian ink on architectural drafting film","categories":[{"text":"Architecture","id":"THES48993"},{"text":"Designs","id":"THES48968"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2013GU3381"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLC","id":"THES49171"},"free":"","case":"MM","shelf":"4","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"design","id":"AAT102051"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"2010","earliest":"2010-01-01","latest":"2010-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by the artist","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"51.3","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"01/02/2012","earliest":"2012-02-01","latest":"2012-02-01"},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"84","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"01/02/2012","earliest":"2012-02-01","latest":"2012-02-01"},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Design, a series of sketches of log piles, timber structures, cranes and workers, for 'The Reforestation of the Thames Estuary', proposal by Tom Noonan, London, 2010","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["E.127-2012"],"accessionNumberNum":"127","accessionNumberPrefix":"E","accessionYear":2012,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-16","recordCreationDate":"2012-01-30","availableToBook":false}}
