The artist specialises in illustration of children's books and draws her inspiration from such 20th century illustrators such as Edward Bawden (1903-1989) and Eric Ravilious (1903-1942) and American lithographed children's books. She typically includes in her work objects found in museums and antique shops. \r\n\r\nThis illustration of hats and hat boxes, set upon shelves, was used opposite the title page in Amy de la Hayes children's book <I> Clara Buton and the Magical Hat Day </I> illustrated by Sutton.  The final version in the book includes dedications and publishing information written over the hat boxes.
